Coveted award for contemporary doll art
The town of Neustadt presents the Max-Oscar-Arnold-Award for the 24th time
Neustadt bei Coburg – This year, the Bavarian Doll Town Neustadt bei Coburg presents the "Max-Oscar-Arnold-Award" for contemporary doll art for the 24th time. The art award, which has been presented by an independent specialist jury in the name of the town since 1995, is regarded as one of the most important international accolades of its kind, and is even referred to as the "Oscar for the doll makers". The award ceremony with covers a total of 14 categories takes place on 11 May 2018 as part of the International Doll Festival in Neustadt and Sonneberg.
With this competition and mindful of their tradition as the Bavarian Doll Town, the town of Neustadt is seeking to continue and consistently promote contemporary doll art. Only unique pieces, as well as small and mini series produced by the artist personally. With an objective points system, the specialist jury, selected each year by the Culture Senate of the town, judges the entries on the basis of artistic and artisanal criteria. The individual prize winners are selected from the circle of nominee in a two-step procedure.
Ten categories are allotted for different depictions, such as representations of children or adults, portrait dolls or caricatures. This year, objects on the theme of "Figures from the children's books from Erich Kästner" are invited to enter category 9. In addition, prizes will be awarded in four special categories: experimental doll art, the newcomer prize, the prize winners' category and the best complete works of an established artist. The prize winners' category is reserved for the winners from 2017. The Culture Senate of the town of Neustadt nominates the best complete works directly without any further consultation with the jury.
The prizes in the 10 different categories are linked to cash prizes of up to 500 euros. The winner in the category for experimental art can win a cash prize of up to 800 euros. The Newcomer prize and the prize winners' category offer cash prizes of 1,000 euros, and the best complete works is even rewarded with 2,500 euros.
The deadline for competition entries is 27 April 2018 this year. The works must be submitted by 3 May 2018. The announcement of the winners and the award ceremony take place on 11 May 2018 at 19:00 in the Family Centre on Schützenplatz in Neustadt. All submitted works can be viewed in the Mehrzweckhalle Heubischer Straße from 10-12 May 2018 from 10:00-17:00.
